$100 simply activates a smart contract, allowing a bank to introduce a staking loan of $32,250 or $43,200 for a 3- or 5-year contract. Without the activation, the bank could not make any money on the blockchain. The bank then rewards the account holder with a small daily interest, which compounds daily over the term.
It is the bank's money that is locked into a smart contract. The account holder only ever pays $100. The smart contract is covered by an insurance policy for the term of the contract.
All this is managed by the blockchain without any human intervention.
